Assisi

VIEW OVER ASSISI & VALLEY BELOW THE SLOPES OF MONTE SUBASIO

Famous as the birthplace of St Francis, one of Italy’s patron saints, the hillside town of Assisi offers much more than just a religious pilgrimage to the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi (but don’t get me wrong, a visit to this beautiful place of worship is WELL worth your time). Set on the slopes of Monte Subasio, wandering up a long flight of steps to the fort of Rocca Maggiore above the town will reward you with spectacular expansive views across the Italian countryside.

Take your time wandering Assisi’s maze of zig-zagging streets filled with the colour of flags, the aromas of pastries & coffee and the constant buzz of chatter. Be prepared to scale step after step, meandering your way up through quaint picture perfect walkways and encounter building facades ablaze with colour from the many plant pots and hanging baskets on the walls, as well as take in the stunning views back across the valley.

Oh, and don’t forget to reward yourself for all that walking and climbing with a delicious, refreshing gelato from La Bottega del Pasticcere on the main street of Via Portica.
