About

Hey there! Welcome to the tails of a wanderer site, an amateur travel and landscape photography blog.

who is the wanderer?

I’m Matt, a 34 year-old “Pom” originally from a small town named Alcester in England. After having fallen victim to the financial crisis in 2009, I decided it was time for a change of scene and a new challenge so I made the bold step in swapping the grey skies, cold and rain of the UK for the blue skies, warmth and sunshine of the beautiful city of Melbourne, Australia. I work professionally as a Landscape Architect and have always had a passion and keen eye for travel, the outdoors and photography, so decided to create my tails of a wanderer blog to share my snaps, experiences and tips on places I’ve visited.

As you will notice in some of the photos, my posts regularly feature my four-legged furkids Marlo and Leina, as well as other fur-friends! They love a good adventure too and more often than not will accompany me wandering around with my lens. We’re always on the look-out for exciting dog-friendly places to eat, drink and wander, so keep an eye out for recommended places that get the paw of approval!

The idea of starting up a blog came to me in mid 2019. I had recently been diagnosed with chronic fatigue and so decided to take a 6 month break from work and return to the UK to recover at my parents house in Shipston on Stour, Warwickshire.

During this period and as part of my recovery program of light exercise, I spent time visiting and wandering around different places and would always carry my camera to practice and enjoy my photography. As my parents live on the edge of the Cotswolds, well known as one of the most idyllic and picturesque areas in England, I was fortunate enough to be able to spend most of my time visiting the abundance of quaint little towns and villages – perfect places for a photographer to explore!

I came across a few online travel blogs which provided me with the inspiration to create my own, as a way of journaling places I’d visited and also as a place to showcase and share my photos, to hopefully provide inspiration to others on places well worth a wander….and so tails of a wanderer was born!
